No body is above any institution……

It hurts me when someone tries to impose himself on an institution and especially when such a person projects himself as the sole authority and overall responsible for institution’s effective functioning. It further hurts me when this person claims that he is interfering in public interest. Union health minister Ramadoss is such a person who is imposing himself on India’s premier medical institution unmindful of the adverse effects it is having on the performance of the institution and patients’ interests. If one goes by the aims and objects of this institution when it was created in 1956, Ramadoss’s political interference in AIIMS affairs is totally unwarranted, unacceptable, illogical and against public interest.

Removal of Dr. Venugopal, Director AIIMS, has hurt the feelings of all those who believe that no body is above an institution and people of academic excellence should be treated with utmost respect. Additional Solicitor General appearing on behalf of the Ramadoss (unfortunately Indian government) said in HC that Venugopal’s removal was necessitated by “public interest” and his “miserable failure” as AIIMS Director. See what Justice Anil Kumar, who stayed Venugopal’s removal, said in reply to this submission – “Ouster of such an eminent doctor whose professional eminence fortunately has not been disputed by the respondents (Ramadoss & others) may be a great loss not only to the institution but to the general public at large. He pulled up the authorities for not producing any evidence to prove his poor performance as an administrator. He held July 5 action of the government to terminate Venugopal’s services as “vitiated”. He further held that Venugopal’s removal was against the principle of natural justice, as he has not been given a “reasonable notice and hearing” before the decision to remove him was taken.

People of India should rise and protest against this naked political interference in India’s premier medical institution. If anybody is to be removed then it is Ramadoss, Ramadoss and Ramadoss.

PM Manmohan Singh is developing an expertise in appointing committees. Any problem and he will appoint a committee. The problems are caused by his ministers but as he has no control over them he appoints a committee to show that he is doing something. Earlier the Oversight Committee on OBC reservation. Now Valiathan committee on AIIMS.

It has been the experience in India that the committee chiefs always talk very high when appointed. Then something happens and the committee becomes a drag on public money. If at all a committee gives its report then it is accepted or rejected depending on the interests of the ruling party(ies) forgetting everything about the purpose for which it was appointed. Mr. Valiathan is also talking high. “we will see how we can preserve the autonomy of India’s revered institutes even when they are dependent on government for funds”. He also said, “I agreed to the PM’s request to be part of this committee on the condition that I will have total independence. All the four members will agree to a certain line of action and the recommendations suggested thereafter. There won’t be voting on any issue”.

Let us see what happens, this committee protects the autonomy of AIIMS or kills whatever autonomy it has now.

The only management visible in India after independence is deffering solutions to existing problems and creating new problems. The government and adminstrators fail in day-to-day management and when crises are created they fail in crisis management also. The Ran-baan solution is deffering the peoblem - consitute committees, take problems to courts and ensure no early dates, create new problems to divert attention etc etc.

This is what has happened in AIIMS Case. This has been happenning in reservation/quota issue. Arjun Singh nad Ramadoss who created the proiblem are still there. How you can you remove the problem without removing its root cause. These two people should be shown the door.

I DON'T AGREE.

Influential people and politicians are above all institutions.
